I dropped my heart on a Mediterranean shore
Maniac waves
Eyes sore
Late night summer breeze
salty moisture wafting the air
people are long asleep
Sliding to the other side
Silhouetted against violet lights
Rocky trembling ground
a creepy statue behind
overdressing for a night
when lunar tenderness ignites
over this hypnotising au revoir
and beneath a sparking guy
with a sweet broken "R"
Eyes, green but brown
Hands, a warm delight
a ten or less second kiss
Stomach's beasts resist
Muting a passion blast
Minimizing myself to fear
Minimizing his charm to care
And I am poignantly awakened to life
with all its pain, glamour and fright
Mean thorns all around his neck
piercing my urge to fight
Roots around my toes are half-alive
faded but longing to climb
his summer sadness archive
his proud renaissance hair
and his fingers throughout
his intact calf muscles
perfectly round eyewear
his concealed despair
or love for round pebbles
I want to kiss his heart
But I don’t want to daydream
of Garden of Eden and its fruit
don’t want to get caught up in a longing episode
I want to kiss his heart
But I am a grape seed
too small to colour
water’s growing desires
My dry Sahara tongue is
unchained but unable to cry
Mythological canyons on the corners of his eye
are too delicate for my African hands to dry.
I am blind but for a yearning star
How unfair it is to swim with half a thigh
How hard it is for the Mediterranean to break
how much will it bleed?
Aphrodite might have touched me
But she will never forgive.
mortal anatomy is not enough
History is not a merciful judge
I am half-conscious but
I am not lost inside a map
I am planted in a blue towel
on a Caucasian mid-summer dream
bathing under the moonlight
unveiled
untied
swimming an eternal Greek night
purifying centuries of black and white
Holding on to a breathing delicacy
Sizzling southern blaze
dragging down this fantasy
Even if the mediterranean dries,
my lungs would still drown
and tenderness would flood out of my heart
while my hair pours lavish tears
the feeling of being nowhere
weighing down my fragile feet
overwhelming belonging to the sea
familiar salt stroking my heat
mellow sky is throwing a warning lullaby
my scratched back is no Atlas
my small fingers are no hikers
oh how I wished for this moment to last “an eternity and a day”
oh how I wished to collapse inside a wave
to lose blood at the bottom of the sea
how I wished for the moon to swallow us
For the sun to softly creep
drying lucid lilac tears
retrieving what’s lost in translation
lost in religion
lost in tribes
lost in fear
before it slowly erupts off my melting ears
on my bruised chest
along his car’s seat belt print
and between my virgin thighs.
I will let my blood run without denial
then stitch my lilies
one at a time
uttering gibberish on an airplane
taking home forbidden flames
that I will throughly cherish.
